Fear not, it’s not as bad as you think it’s going to be! Let’s be honest here, no one likes injections – people can handle them and not be too bothered by them, but no one actually enjoyed them or likes them. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Now before you rush off to a travel clinic and pay a small fortune for a load of different jabs, take a breath and have a look on the MASTA website. This site is a godsend!
Once you get on the website go to the ‘Vaccine checker’ option and put in all the places you are or might be visiting. Don’t worry if you’re not too sure about the date, just put in a rough guide and follow what it says on the page. This will give you a list of all the injections you MUST have and then a list of suggestions.
Keep this list and print it showing the ‘MASTA’ logo. Why? You ask. Well because rather than spending hundreds (because it really is that expensive) at a special travel clinic you can get most of these injections at your local doctors surgery! TADA, what a revelation!
I was sure I was going to have to pay loads for my trip, and to find out I could have it all done by a nurse at my GP surgery for FREE was amazing!
As I’m sure you know it’s so expensive to travel and you want to have as much money as you can save up so you can do more, see more, and stay more when you’re away. This is one less thing for you guys to worry about!
Side note: When you go to your doctors they will make a point of telling you that they are not a travel clinic and can not offer you any advice or information. You will need to show you have done your research and show them what vaccines you need (pssst… this is where your MASTA print out comes in handy!)
Then all you need is a quick few injections and voila you’re good to go! Plus if you’re really lucky, like me, then you might already be covered for some things from your childhood jabs.
For any questions or specialist travel medication you will have to contact a travel clinic. There are lots dotted about and I’m sure they will be happy to help.
